Mary L: My rack does not tip over, however, I have it against the wall. It leans a little to the side sometimes, but I have it absolutely loaded with shoes. I also bought one for my husband's ties and draped them over it. Worked great!

Richard D: We have ours up against a wall in the basement, it's not secured, but it's not in the middle of a room either. I thought the same thing when I purchased it, but it's surprisingly sturdy and doesn't tip over.

JoAnn T: Space: the dimensions are accurate (about 36"W, 56"H including the shoes on the top row) I have mine next to a wall in a small walk-in closet, so with the shoes on it, it takes up about 11 inches in depth. While the rack has "feet", it is not meant to be free-standing in the middle of a room as it's not as rigid as say, a wooden structure would be, and the shoes could fall through if not for having the wall behind it. I have had an occasional "swaying" problem when I grab a shoe too quickly off the shelf which can cause some other shoes to fall off if I make the rack move too much. I've never had a problem with it tipping over, just swaying enough that it loses a few shoes. Otherwise the shoes stay on the rack well, and for the price and the fact that it's open shelving, it works pretty well. I only have women's shoes on the rack; if you put men's shoes on it, it would most like not hold as many and would take up more depth in the room. I've tried lots of shoe systems, and this one works the best and holds the most shoes. Plus, unlike the storage box systems, it's easy to see the shoe you want because the shoes are on display. Obviously since it's free-standing, it won't be as sturdy as built-in shelving, but for what it does and the relatively small footprint it takes in the closet, I've been very happy with it. Mine is loaded to the gills - if you don't need the entire space I think you would need to make sure the shelves are somewhat balanced.

Anita K: It doesn't take up much space. I had my shoes in boxes before and it fills more airy now. I color coded my shies so the weight seems to come out evenly.

Tempia O: It's not too much space, probably like half of a regular size wall. But these racks are flimsy. Would not buy it again. But my shoes are finally on something and not the floor.
