Jewelry Storage Tips: Preparation and Packing

Just as your wardrobe rotates on a seasonal basis, the jewelry you wear should reflect the mood of the season. When winter turns to spring, your jewelry wardrobe should be refreshed and your winter-themed pieces should be places in jewelry storage. You can make sure they are ready to be worn when cooler weather arrives by storing them properly.

Prepare your pieces for jewelry storage with these three steps:

  1. Confirm that the links and clasps of your winter necklaces are in good working condition. If repairs are needed, now is the time to take a trip to the jeweler to have them done. Don’t wait until it’s time to place them in jewelry storage.

  1. Clean your gold and platinum jewelry and wipe each piece dry with a soft cloth. You can avoid leaving fingerprints by wearing a pair of soft cotton gloves while cleaning your jewelry before they go into jewelry storage.

  1. Remove all pins and brooches from your winter coats and jackets. These items are better stored with other jewelry than on your clothes, as rust stains and tears may occur during jewelry storage.

Three tips for storing your jewelry properly:

Purchase jewelry storage devices that can be easily packed away until next season. There are many options in jewelry storage such as jewelry boxes, jewelry chest and jewelry trays – which can be stacked in a drawer and tucked away until next season.   Take your more precious jewelry and gemstones to the bank to store in a safety deposit box. This will give you peace of mind while on your vacation, knowing that your investment jewelry is securely protected behind locked doors in jewelry storage.   Install a small wall safe if you prefer to store your valuable jewelry at home.  Secure home jewelry storage is ideal for storing jewelry items.  A secure jewelry storage safe can be mounted into a wall or secured in a closet.   With careful preparation and packing, jewelry storage can be an easy task at the end of each season.  Jewelry storage will also prevent loss and damage of pieces that will not be worn until a new season rolls around.
