Six Simple Rules for Teaching Kids Organization

There is nothing sweeter than walking into your child’s room and actually feeling proud, calm and satisfied. Keeping their rooms tidy with the help of closet organizers and other storage tools will help kids keep their rooms in order as well as help keep you sane. Your children will spend more time in their rooms and less time asking you to help find their favorite toys.

Installing closet organizers can help your kids easily locate games, toys, books, shoes, etc... A clean room makes for less confusion in the morning, as well. Imagine your kids getting ready for school on time.

These six simple rules will help you be on your way to creating order:

1. ORGANIZATION: Teach your child to be an organized person. Children learn by example so start early by teaching your kids a simple clean up routine every night at bedtime. Help them put their dirty clothes away, shoes in the closet and put their toys to bed with the day as well. Putting closet organizers in your child’s closet will be a big help as it will make clean up much easier.

2. STORAGE:  One way to boost organizational skills is by providing plenty of good storage space. It’s impossible for a child to keep a room straight if there’s nowhere for them to store their toys. Book shelves, closet organizers, toy boxes and dirty clothes hampers are essentials.

3. CONSISTENCY: Never slack!  Always be consistent with rules about tidiness and organization. Check their rooms daily to make sure they are clean. It takes a little getting used to on your part, but remember, consistency equals order.

4. FUN: Keep it fun! Let them listen to their favorite music while cleaning and putting things away in the closet organizers.  Sit and read them a story while they make their bed. Everything is easier with a little music or a good story!

5. REMINDERS: It’s up to you to remind your children to clean. Make it a nightly routine. Children tend to slack off if not kept on task. No need to be a drill sergeant, but a little nudge doesn’t hurt.

6. REWARDS: There’s nothing wrong with rewarding a job well done! Your child will be much more inspired to clean if they know there’s a reward on the horizon. After all, adults get paid for their work, don’t they?

Good luck! Following these six rules will help you and your child lead a clutter free life. With some guidelines and help from closet organizers and other organizational tools, you and your kids will be on track in no time at all.
