Start with Shoe Racks When Organizing Your Closet in 2009

Was one of your New Years resolutions to get organized? This seems like a daunting task for many people. The best way to get the ball rolling is to start with one area of you life. Why not start with your closet? Organize your closet and then your life.  Begin with simple steps like buying shoe racks and closet organizers.    Closets can sometimes feel like the dark subconscious of a household—cluttered and chaotic with forgotten and misplaced belongings. You may be putting off organizing them because you assume it will take forever or, at the very least, a pricey, complicated system. However you’ll find that some steps are quite inexpensive – like cheap shoe racks.    If organizing the closet still seems overwhelming, start with your shoes. The best way to contain your shoes is with a shoe rack. Before you head off to the store, however, consider the following:
  • Decide what type of shoe rack works best for you. Over-the-door shoe racks are great space savers, whereas modular shoe racks provide the option of customizing the design. Additionally, you might opt for a shoe rack that functions as another piece of furniture or one that revolves to allow easy access to each shoe.

  • Determine how many shoes you need to store on a shoe rack. While some shoe racks serve to accommodate just a few pair of shoes at a time, a larger shoe rack can hold up to 50 pairs at once.

  • Look at the materials used to make the shoe rack. Whether you spend a lot of money to customize a wooden shoe rack for a high-end closet or need cheap shoe racks for a child's room, evaluate what type of shoe rack is practical for you.

  • Factor in how much money you can spend on a shoe rack. While you can find  no-frills cheap shoe racks for very little money, others, such as shoe cupboards, can cost a few hundred dollars.
Life begins with a single step. And now that you’ve organized your shoes with shoe racks, you’ll be able to find the perfect shoe to make that first step.  Once you’ve got one area of your closet under control, you’ll be able to work up to organizing other areas with canvas boxes, hanging shelves and storage bins.
