Product of the Week: Pull Out Shelf - One Size Fits Most

By Michaela Strathman

slide_out_shelfA pull out shelf is one of the most versatile household organizers you will ever find. It can be used in any room that has cabinets or closets, making reaching a thing of the past! The problem is, cabinets come in all shapes and sizes, so finding the right shelf to match your cabinet size can be difficult. Many people eventually turn to custom slide out shelves, very nice but a little on the pricey side. This pull out shelf solves all of those problems with a unique design that allows it to expand to the size of your cabinets – voila! No more measuring, guessing and then crossing your fingers in hopes that it will fit – you can expand this shelf up to 20”, perfect for those of us without “standard” cabinetry. Another nice thing about this particular shelf is that the rails mount to the side of the cabinet, so you can create multiple tiers of storage.

Read on for my tips on How and Where to Use Pull Out Shelves:

1. Kitchen Sink – by far the most obvious place to use sliding shelves is in the kitchen. Under the sink, these can hold soaps and detergents and sponges.
2. Kitchen Pantry - In the pantry, sliding shelves make finding food staples a cinch – no more digging around in the back for the right can of beans! To really make life easy, find a narrow pantry (11.5 – 20”) and line it up and down with sliding shelves
3. Kitchen Cabinets – Having to squat down and dig around in the back of cabinets for the right pots and pans is enough to make anyone go nuts. Swap your current cabinet shelves with easy gliding pull out shelves.
4. Bathroom – Under the bathroom sink, sliding shelves can hold everything from hairdryers and hairspray to toilet paper and personal items. Easier access to your primping tools means a more efficient morning (and evening) routine!

Now get Organizing! And while you’re in there, do some de-cluttering. Get rid of any mismatched Tupperware, expired foods and old, cakey makeup pronto! Now you’re on your way to fresh, clean and tidy cupboards!

I love these sliding cabintes. I got some installed into our kitchen cabinets for my mother who suffers from arthiritis. And boy was she happy for not having to get onher knees and dig to the back of the cabinets.

Here’s a sobering thot:
doesn’t matter what we mortals think -
not everyone makes Heaven when they die…
which leaves only ONE other option…

GOD BLESS YOU

I saw a very handy idea in a decor book at a bookshop in Dublin recently.

These particular bedside tables had a 2cm pullout shelf for putting coffee, water, extra bits and bobs that were temporary.

I thought that was a great idea and am seriously considering having someone build me a cabinet exactly like I have now, but with that extra little bit that looks so, so useful.

I love these pull-out drawer/shelves too. I went a little further buy purchasing a matching set of pots and pans — you can read more about how much better that works in a small space by checking out my blog post at http://openhouse.homegoods.com/index.php/2008/10/20/organizing-your-cookware-for-the-small-kitchen/
