Space Treat: Magnetic Solutions

Right 12, Left 37, Right 16 – that was my high school locker combination.

Back to school season is here! We’re surrounded by lots of new notebooks, pens, paper tablets and my favorite… magnetic gadgets for lockers!

Even if you’re all grown up, you can still get a bang out of these fun and functional items. Magnetic gadgets are available all year round but right now there is an influx of bright, colorful ones marketed to students… but don’t let that stop you from enjoying them yourself!

There are dozens of fabulous uses for them. For example, if your medicine cabinet is metal you can put up some small mesh bins to hold lipsticks, tweezers, nail files, basically anything that tends to fall off those small shelves.

Put a magnetic clip on the inside of your front door for important reminders. (Most apartments here in New York City have metal doors… how about you?)

I always recommend using the same pen to write on all your files, so put up a magnetic pen holder on your filing cabinet and you’ll never have to search for that pen again.

Shop for these gadgets during the “Back to School” season at your local Bed, Bath and Beyond, Container Store and Staples.

Space-tacularly yours,

Keeping all our our fluff in one place helps us to stay organized and clutter free.

    Thanks for sharing.

I’m one of those people who live in an apartment in NYC that has metal doors. I use a magnetic bin on my front closet door to hold outgoing mail, store coupons, museum membership cards, etc. that I need to take with me when I leave. I use another bin to hold my keys, cellphone and removable bike light. Unfortunately, here in NYC you don’t leave anything on a bike that isn’t permanently attached!

I recommend magnetic bins all the time to my organizing clients. They’re always thrilled to – finally! – be able to locate the items they need to take with them on their way out the door. Thanks for letting everyone know how they can get – and stay! – organized or better organized using the wide variety of magnetic items that are readily available.
