Tuesday Tip: Cards, Anyone?

recipe-boxHere’s a great way to keep you family on top of the daily chores around your house!

What you’ll need:

   • 1 pack of index cards

   • Card file or recipe box

Write one chore on each card (wash dishes, fold laundry, walk dog, etc) and store them in the file box.

At the start of each day (or the end of the previous day – whichever works for you) have all family members choose an equal number of cards. These will be the chores that they are responsible for on that day. They can also be allowed to swap cards as long as it’s agreeable to both parties.

This way everyone gets a little variety each day, and no one feels like they get the “worst” job all the time.

Do you have any variations of this that you use? Leave a comment!

I made a chore pocket chart for my kids and made custom chore tickets. Each girl has a pocket and I put several tickets in her pocket each day. I keep the chores simple: clean room for 20 minutes, clear stuff from kitchen island (the dumping ground), put away 5 things in Family Room, etc. That way they can all do a few things and they aren't overwhelmed.

What a great idea, Kate! That may be even better for younger kids. It would allow you to customize their cards for their ages. :)

I took this idea one step further and added dividers to my box to cover weekly & monthly chores, too. Once each chore is done, the card goes to the back of the section.
