Nothing is worse than the feeling that comes with breaking a brand-new plate or glass in your sink. This feeling of disappointment and despair is especially compounded when your sink is scratched or damaged as well! One solution to this issue that I often see is adding a kitchen sink mat to the sink. While rubber mats do keep the surface free from scratches, they cannot prevent against the denting caused by dropping heavier pots and pans into the sink area. Another issue with the rubber sink mats is that when you want to unplug the sink, you must remove the rubber mat first.
Enter the sturdy, gridded kitchen sink mats, which are made from either plastic or stainless steel and are available in a range of sizes from 12.75" x 11" for small square sinks, up to 24"L x 12"W for large rectangular sinks. The best thing about these mats, and what really separates them from rubber sink mats, is that they are slightly elevated on rubber feet, which allow for some buffer space between the rack and the sink surface. That way, when you drop a large griddle into the sink there will be no more fear of scratching, denting or cracking of the sink area, plus your dishes will remain flawless! Most of the sink mats have a center opening that allows you to pull the plug without moving the grid mat.
Because they are available in a variety of sizes, you will have no problem finding the perfect sink mat for your dish washing area! The rubber feet keep the sink mat firmly in place; it will not go sliding out from under you when you are washing your favorite china. Now, you can finally let your kids do the dishes again without worry of denting, scratching or broken serving ware!
