One of the easiest ways to give any room, inside or out, a makeover is to simply switch up the lighting. Lighting is one of the most important, and often one of the most overlooked, parts of a room’s decorative theme. Thankfully, it is also easy to tackle yourself, and very affordable.
Here are some easy, quick ways to freshen up the lighting around your home without the help of a contractor. Add one of these projects to your DIY short list for the summer!
Wall Lights – Sconces are a great lighting solution over the bed, in the hall or as accent lighting in the living room or dining room. If you are a DIY-er, never fear; many wall lamps come with a cord so that you don’t have to hardwire them into the house. Another option is a battery operated sconce, like the White Toucan Frosted Glass Smart Sconce which simply runs on AA batteries.
Symmetrical Lighting, Design Focal Point – Nothing says instant style like two matching table lamps flanking the bed. For well under $75, this is a quick fix for a blah bedroom.
Outdoor Lamps – That’s right, just like you can buy a table lamp for the interior of your home, there are outdoor models that look exactly the same, but are rated for outdoor use. A great way to create an outdoor living room on the patio.
Crown Molding with Rope Lights – This is a great idea if you have crown molding in your home. You simply buy inexpensive rope lighting and mount to the top of the molding in any room. If you don’t have crown molding already, many consider this to be an intermediate level DIY project that really gives a room a finished look.
Candlelight – Of course we couldn’t leave out nature’s own lamp, the candle. Candles can be used all over the home for a warm, inviting vibe. Just be sure to follow proper safety rules when handling and burning candles.
