Stop House-Guest OverwhelmBy
With so many holidays, fall is the perfect time to visit with friends and family. While it can be fun to catch up, having a house guest at such a busy time of year can sometimes seem like a lot to handle. Don’t get overwhelmed with everything going on. A little planning ahead can help make sure you have plenty of time to spend with guests and don’t waste any time worrying about whether or not they’re being taken care of.
The first step is making sure the necessities are always on hand, like bath linens and clean sheets. If you don’t have a guest room with it’s own bathroom set out a bath towel and washcloth on the bed so they know they have their own. Keep travel sized toiletries on hand, like soap, shampoo or toothpaste in case your guest has forgotten to pack anything.
Go beyond the basics and think of little details that will make your guest feel more at home. If you have a chance, think about what your guests like to do to relax. If they’re an avid reader leave out a book light or a favorite book on the nightstand. For guests with lots of high tech gadgets leave a note on the bedside table with the name and password for your wireless internet so they don’t have to ask for it and can easily check their email. Finish off the room with a warm throw and maybe a candle and you’ll have relaxed guests that won’t want to leave.
If you have a free drawer in the guest room or around the house set it aside to store all your guestroom must haves in one place. That way you won’t have to run around the house looking for clean towels right before they arrive. Whether you know someone is coming to visit months in advance or have an unexpected house guest, always being prepared for a guest’s arrival means guests will always feel welcome.
House guests are nicer when they are comfortable.
