Washcloth Travel Roll – An Easy Homemade Gift

washcloth craftThere’s nothing like giving away something that you made as a gift, whether it is for Christmas, Hanukkah or a birthday! The washcloth travel roll has to go down in history as one of the simplest homemade gifts ever. It only requires five seams, perfect for the beginning seamstress or tailor, or simply for us busy adults that have too much on our plates already. One great thing about it is that you can just throw it into the washing machine to sterilize it in between trips. Also, it’s free. Read on for instructions!

    Materials Needed:

  • An old washcloth
  • Matching (or contrasting!) thread
  • Pins
  • Needle or sewing machine
  • Iron (optional)
    • Instructions:

  • Lay the washcloth flat, ironing if necessary to undo kinks.
  • Fold the bottom 1/3-1/2 of the wash cloth up towards the top.
  • Iron the bottom crease to get a good hold.
  • Pin the side seams prior to sewing.
  • Sew the two outside edges.
  • Sew dividers along the inside, choosing however many you want (3-4).
  • Optional: Attach a ribbon, Velcro or button on the front for tying and clasping, plus any other trimmings you want for a fun look.

This is a fun alternative to traditional toiletry bags, and best of all you can make it look however you want and hold whatever you want! A great project for kids, teens and adults alike. Makes a cute shower gift too!
