15 Minute Project - Hanging Sewing Organizer

Posted in: How I de-cluttered, Clutter Control Products, Organizeit Projects

sewing-organizedMake your own hanging organizer on the cheap! All you need are skirt hangers (the kind with clips), a small bag or tote for accessories, and a foot or so of closet space.

1. Lay out your fabrics, fold and clip onto the hangers. Tiered hangers are even better, taking up the least amount of space by taking advantage of vertical space.

2. Find a bag or tote – this can be anything from an old purse to a canvas shopping bag. If you have a lot of sewing accessories, you should use more than one bag, sorting by “sewing job”. For example, one bag for hand sewing materials, one for machine accessories, one for embroidery, etc.

3. Hang the hangers in the back corner of your closet. If you don’t have closet space to spare, hang a small closet rod in the laundry room (either wall mount or tension style), which can double as drying space.

Project Benefits:• Easy Mobility – Grab and go with only the hangers that you need
• Up High = Out of reach from little hands and curious minds
• Inexpensive/ Free
• Quick (15 minutes tops!)

*Bonus Idea* - If you have a pile of clothes that need mending, place them in a larger bag and keep them hanging with your other sewing supplies. Next time you get the itch to stitch, commit to mending one garment before you start the fun stuff.
