Closet Shelving Systems. Organizing the closet is our number one area of expertise, we’ve been doing it affordably for people for more than 20 years! A
closet shelving system is a do it yourself closet organizer, so in a way it is a custom closet, without the hefty price tag that usually accompanies custom closets. You can choose from wood, laminate, wire or a combination of these three. Most DIY closet shelving systems are adjustable in size, and many allow you to choose the configuration of shelves that suit your needs best.
You may be wondering what type of closet shelving system to buy. Well, take into consideration a few things. First, is this a temporary solution or a more permanent one? If this is really just a temporary fix while you are remodeling, for example, or if you are a renter and don’t plan on staying in your home forever, you may want to go for the least expensive system. This usually means wire over wood. However, if you own your home, a wooden organizer may be worth the investment. Second Question: Does it matter to you what it looks like? Even the coated white wire closet systems look nice, they give your clothes a system of organization which can go a long way in the looks department. But, it’s hard to argue with a solid wood closet shelf where you can choose maple or mahogany finishes – these closets end up looking very elegant.
Depending on the amount of customization that the product you choose allows for, you may want to incorporate the following ideas when designing your closet. (Please check each individual product to see how much configuring you are allowed to do). Shoe rack: Some kits give you a set of shorter shelves to create a tower. You can decide whether you want to use these as folded clothes storage or a shoe rack. Double hang rods: Some kits also allow you to create a double hang rod, this is a great way to maximize storage in a smaller closet – a tried and true space saver.
