Unusual item. The material is chrome metal wire. Each wire 'square' is too large-allowing small items to fall through. Locking feature doesn't really function to lock the expansion section.

I have three of these organizers and I use
two of them for kitchen items in drawers and
the third one is used in a junk drawer. All
three are so neatly organized now that I love
to open these drawers. Eventually I want to
purchase more and slowly organize every messy
drawer in my house.

I bought this to organize our kitchen "junk" drawer. I use the dividers to separate: pens, pencils, markers, and miscellaneous (paper clips, white-out, super glue). The large open part is used for the tape measure, stapler, box cutters, tape, scissors, and small flashlight and tools. Of all my well-organized drawers, this one by far gets the most compliments.
