Very Effective

Comments about Racor, Inc. Heavy Lift Storage Hoist- Maximize Garage Storage:
We found the "hook" bolts holding the wire base to the heavy frame were carelessly bent during manufacture leaving about a third of them unusable - there wasn't enough thread for the nut to grab onto. We had to replace them with substitute from the hardware store. A simple quality control problem.

Pretty good system

Comments about Racor, Inc. Heavy Lift Storage Hoist- Maximize Garage Storage:
I installed three total and each install was easier after the initial learning curve. However, the hook anchors/bolts that connect the platform grid to the bars (which connect to the wires) are awkward. Overtightening them forces the platform and the bars to not sit flush which throws the whole thing off. I figured it out. The other thing, the bolts seemed a little soft. Maybe I over torqued them stripping the head clean off but for something that is rated to hold 200+lbs I would have the thought the bolts would have been super hardened. Overall though, the system works great and has successfully lifted everything off my garage floor allowing ample clearance height and freeing up a parking spot.

A hoist that works for truck caps

Comments about Racor, Inc. Heavy Lift Storage Hoist- Maximize Garage Storage:
I bought this to hold the cap from my Ford Ranger. I modified it by putting two 2x4s across the front and rear, wide enough to hold the cap. Once done, I backed the truck up to the hoist, lifted the cap onto the 2x4s, raised the hoist and my cap storage problem was solved. When the time came to put the cap back on a simple reversal of the process made it easy. I should have bought this years ago.

Great Garage Storgae

Comments about Racor, Inc. Heavy Lift Storage Hoist- Maximize Garage Storage:
The provided lag screws are way too short. Most new attached garages are required to have double layered 5/8" FRT sheetrock. This results in a 1 1/4" thick ceiling. Taking into account the thickness of the arms this means that the lag screws are going thru 1 1/2" before getting into the ceiling joists. As the lag screws are only 2" long, the bite into the joist is only 1/2". This is not long enough. I went out and purchased longer (3") lag screws. Also, the length of the drop is not 8'. It is only about 7' 3".

Comments about Racor, Inc. Heavy Lift Storage Hoist- Maximize Garage Storage:
The length of the provided lag screws used to attach the arms to the ceiling are 2" long. Most new fire codes require two layers of 5/8" FRT sheet rock in the ceiling of attached garages. Taking the thickness of the arm into account that means the lag screws are only going into the ceiling joists about 1/2". I don't think this is enough 'bite' to provide the required strength to hold the 250 lbs. I bought several 2 1/2 long lag screws which provide a better bite inot the joists.
