Wood is a great choice of materials of any types of shelving because it is very sturdy, and very versatile. Wood can be shaped to have hard edges, or rounded to a smooth half moon. Floating shelves allow you to mount a shelf to the wall using hidden brackets, and are surprisingly sturdy.
