There is a lever on the inside of the product that "activates" or "deactivates" the locking function. A manual of how that works accompanies the product. If the key becomes lost, it can be replaced through the manufacturer for a small fee. Instructions on how to do this come with the product.

For the magnetic locking model, the cabinet locks when closed and can be opened when the detachable magnetic handle is placed on the door surface.  

Small holds 24+ necklaces, 48+ pairs of earrings, and 20+ rings.
