I have not put the stair treads on my stairs yet but they came well packaged and I love the green color! They are the perfect size and since I am putting them in an entrance way on top of carpet stairs I want to clean them before I put the stair treads on. Thought a darker color would hide the dirt more. Awesome price for the quality that I can tell so far.

Bought these stair tread rugs to protect Southern Yellow Pine (softwood) stairs in the Vermont Log home we are building (future retirement home) from the traffic of 3 Labs. One is aging (12+ years), and panics going down stairs. The minute he hits the 1st wood step the nails pop out like switchblades in a Westside Story rumble. After hours of re-sanding and re-finishing the stairs, to remove the nail gouges, we bought these to help protect the stairs from future abuse. They look good, and seem easy to keep clean, but the rubberized backing doesn't keep them in place all the time. We are looking into double sided tape to help hold these in place, that won't affect the Polyurethane wood finish (we don't want to nail these in with the provided staple/nails, as that would limit removal for cleaning, and damage the stair tread with nail holes). I can't say if these will hold up over time or snag on the dog's nails and wear out. The dogs only visit the house once a month, so it may take time to really evaluate the product's preformance for the intended protection. But we do like the way they look on the stairs, and at Stack & Stack's price for these, how could we go wrong.

The stair treads [...] looked like they did on line. They are a great value for the price. The only downside is the smell. The stair treads have been out of the plastic for about 2 weeks now, but there is still a chemical smell. Hopefully, it will dissipate eventually.

We love our carpet treads. Our sheltie would not attempt using stairs until we taped these on! Work great and clean easily.

Shopper: How well do these work? Do you need to tack them down or do they work well just placed on top of the step? Are they easy to keep clean?

Diane B: They have worked fine for me. They have backing similar to bathroom rugs with vinyl backs. The backing is tacky but not super sticky. They stay in place but sometimes move a little and need to be repositioned. I did not tack them down. We have not had any problems with wear or falls. I think that if these were in a very busy area where there is a lot of use they might need to be tacked down or taped. They are sturdy and comfortable to step on, easy to vacuum, and I think they could be cleaned with carpet cleaner if needed.

Gregory F: Put them on very slippery tile and wood stairs because the dogs were slipping and sliding. They worked great. No need to tack them down but they will move around after a few days. Easy to clean with vacuum brush end. We have since moved and I now use them on my RV entry stairs.

Kathy S: Hi, I have like kitchen carpet going down my stairs to rec room which I wanted to put something on so it wouldn't wear so much, we have grand kids over a lot, the tacks that they sent were not long enough and I called them they could not help me find any, so I tried at Lowes, Menards etc couldn't get any long enough to tack down they kept coming off so I just pulled them out and just straighten them out each day. Wasn't happy about that. The sticky stuff you can put on back and on carpet wouldn't hold in place either. I ended up needing 14 of them and the Navy color wasn't all the same shade, so I had to try to fix them to kind of blend in. But other than that they help keep my carpet under them from matting down. Only had since March but I'm at point I'm probably going to order the green this time, since the cost isn't that bad, just wish I could find way to anchor down. I did ask carpet people also, they didn't know of anything. Hope this helped. Kathy

Diann A: No, they do not need to be tacked down. I use mine on painted, wooden steps to the basement. They get a lot of use and stay in place well. I vacuum/clean mine just like any other carpet.

Joseph K: I have them on wood stairs and they work great- did not have to tack down

Eva K: They clean up easily and have worn very well. They need carpet tape to adhere to the stairs-- without that I think that they would be treacherous. I bought them because my elderly dogs were unable to manage the stairs any longer. They have been perfect at preventing both the dogs and fast-moving sock-footed kids from slipping.

CONNIE F: Hi Nicole, I thought that these carpets worked very well. I have them outside under my car port on wooden stairs and I did not nail them down etc. They move a little but not much. I have kept them out side, winter and summer. I did wash one because it got mud on it. It washed up nicely but it is now slightly lighter in color then the others. I hope that this helps. Connie

Douglas M: We pulled up old carpet from wooden stairs and put these in place so our dog would not skid down the stairs. We did not tack that down with anything extra. I have to reposition every now and then, but overall they stay in place. The have been easy to keep clean.
