We got this CD rack because it takes up no space and provides a lot of storage. We assumed (without thinking much about it) that a CD rack designed to be installed in a wall would fit into a standard thickness wall. However, at 6.5 inches deep, it was too deep. Our walls are the standard thickness (about 3.75 inches of the 2 x 4 framing, plus the quarter inch thickness of the drywall). It fit nicely between the 16 inch spacing of the studs, so that was clearly considered when they designed it. Because of where we wanted to install it, we decided to keep it and just have it stick out a couple inches from the wall, but it definitely doesn't look right. If your walls are deep enough, this would be a very nice rack. It's quite handsome.

The shelf itself is great. If the mounting hardware can be improved, this would be a great space saving, well designed case.
