I installed this shelf at a lower height than you usually would for display. I use it as a recharging station for electronic devices. There are screws that secure the shelf to the mounting bracket that are visible on the top. This is great if you mount the shelf higher and, therefore, would more readily see the bottom. I chose this style because it more closely matches the style of my apartment. The shelf is of a hollow construction and perhaps for this reason it came with a crack along the front edge. I repaired it with caulk (easily done on the white model) rather than send it back.
