You can use a direct water line connection (water hose included), or manually fill the 2 liter reservoir. Or place a 3 or 5 gallon water bottle to the top of this unit (bottle adaptor included). I love the crushed ice. Unfortunately, if not used within a 24 hour period, it shuts off and then you have to restart it. It takes about 10 minutes to make the ice. I usually don't have the time to wait and get the cubed ice out of the fridge instead. We have a sub zero fridge and it doesn't come with a crushed ice option and this is the only option I've found so far. The cold water dispenser is so slow that it takes about a minute or more to fill a glass. Not practical so we don't use that function.
