Because where side closer is located - the lid does not close tightly/firmly. A space remains so ice melts faster.

Looking forward to getting lots of use out of this deck box this summer, and many more to come. It looks nicer on the patio than a regular cooler, and with the insulation it will keep drinks cold for hours. Great Product!!
