Plastic/fiberglass pet screen is too thick for the little tabs to hold together. I had to re-install it with small screws. Also the plastic locking device was no match for my big determined male cat - I had to use a piece of stiffer plastic. It is a great idea, but fails somewhat in execution. It might work fine on thin screen with a dainty animal.

We installed this on a screen door with pet appropriate screening. The door was not easy to install, because the screening is a bit thicker. We eventually had to use "Shoe Goo" to make it stay in place. It's taking a long time to get our dog used to using the door. She still goes through kind of sideways, not straight on. There is signs of the door coming loose. I would still recommend the door, as it does the job. Just be prepared for the installation not being that easy.

Dogs love the door however I had to use a glue gun to keep it from coming apart after a few uses.
For the price and the easy installation I would recomend it to all of my friends.

Shopper: Can bugs get in or is the screen covering the squares on the pet door?
gilbert a: No. Bugs do not come in thankfully. The way it works is, there are plastic snap ons to connect the in-home plastic molding and the outer-home plastic molding. They snap together with male and female parts that are on both moldings. And then with a knife, cut the area where that dog is coming in the door. So technically, its a screen door with 3 slits that have two plastic moldings on both sides of the screen to keep it weighted and closed. Worked excellent and didn't have to worry about it for a year, until the screen on the screen door started ripping on the top corner! So I bought aluminum made screen at Home Depot and snapped the moldings back on, and now the door hasn't made any nuisances as of yet. So keep that in mind! Good luck :)

Does bugs get in? I don't see any ! However I don't live around
too many trees, bushes etc.
Anthony H: This door has been great for the two years we've been using it. There is screen in the squares of the door and we haven't had any problem with bugs. The "lock" to keep it closed is useless. My dogs just push harder to bend the plastic and stretch the screen so we don't even use it. I would buy this door again.

April A: Yes, I have a 80 lb Lab that breezes right through it. I have 2 large dog screen doors, front door n back doos. With use they get worn, so buy an extra when you rescreen u have a new one.
Angela C: I have purchased about three of the "large" pet doors over the years for our Heeler/Shepherd. She is a medium sized dog (about 50 lbs) and she loves it. It allows us to have the sliding door open during the day and she can come and go as she pleases. She sometimes runs through in a hurry to chase birds, so we have had to "add" a few screws to keep it from unsnapping. Otherwise, the doors are great and I highly recommend them. Hope this helps...

JILL H: Yes it was good for about 6 months then came apart. Had to use zip ties to keep it together. But my dog was in and out of the door so many times a day, no wonder it broke. I would still recommend it. My dog was 60 pounds.

Loretta M: our dog is 50 pounds and we have the large door, so for a German Shepherd I would think x-large would be better, they could probably make it through the large door but if it is too tight they might refuse to use it, or possibly tear the screen trying to get through.
Judith S: The door I bought was a small, same size as our regular pet doors. Our miniature dachshunds have no problem going with this size. It would be too small for anything larger. Also, I have not got them to use the screen door yet. It is rather flimsy and doesn't snap together very tightly. Don't know how the large size would be if the small one doesn't stay together that well.
