Have trouble standing for any length of time. The high seat on this step stool is great. I'm able to work in the kitchen w/o hurting. My husband gave me a great Christmas present! Love it.

Love this multi-purpose stool!!! My Gram had an original in butter yellow, so it was awesome to find one in red to match my kitchen. Within two hours of putting it together I had 4 different compliments and 'where did you get it?' from people!!

Shopper: Do you have to put it together?
John H: I bought this a couple of years ago. I don't recall it needed much to put parts together. If any, it was easy. I have arthritis and can not stand for any length of time in the kitchen. I find it very easy to set on this stool and work at the counter. Love it.
Bea M: Yes you do. Lots of pieces. Not too easy. Stool is smaller than the original.
Janeen H: Yes, you do need to assemble it--or have your "people" do it.
Mary A: I purchased this item knowing I would need to put it together. I found it to be a challenge and suggest that you use a powered not standard screwdriver (I have some wrist problems). It took me about an hour (while my husband sat there watching) but it is well worth it. I use mine everyday as a seat at my counter and also use it to reach things above my head. I would purchase this again. Enjoy your finished product.
Shopper: How difficult is this stool to assemble?
stephen g: The stool was not hard at all to put together. The only thing that gave me problems and was not explained properly in the instructions was the support band at the bottom of the stool. It consist of 2 pieces. One covers the front and two sides and is even with bottom step in picture. The second piece is in the rear. The back piece goes underneath the side and front wrap around piece and both attach with the same screw. Other than that it took me about 15 minutes to complete and we love it. It is well made and very sturdy. I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.
James W: On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the hardest, I'd rate it at a 5. It's been quite a while, but as I recall, one piece did not want to go into place.
Janeen H: Assembly is not difficult--just takes a bit of time
Mary A: From the time I opened the box, it took me a wee bit over an hour to assemble the stool. On a scale of one to 10, I'd rate the assembly process a "3". Don't forget, even the most conscious assembly worker can't guarantee that ALL the wholes align perfectly. Mine took a little a little "coaxing" on two of the holes. That's it. I'm proud of the finished product.
Shopper: Is this chair sturdy?
Laura W: I would say 'Yes' the chair is sturdy for someone who is around 5 - 5 1/2 ft tall and around 100# or so. Anyone taller or heavier it may not be what your looking for.
John H: Yes, the Retro Chair/Step Stool is sturdy. I have a bad back and I use it to sit on when I answer the kitchen phone, that hangs on the wall. It is much easier to sit on it, then to sit on a low kitchen chair. I have not used it as a step stool, as I am unable to climb anything! My daughter, however, uses it all the time to reach things in the top cabinet. Glad I bought it. : )
Mary A: Absolutely. I have used this chair to reach places I normally would have had my son climb a short stepstool to reach. I am not a feather-weight. But remember to check the points where the screws are attached in the framework, as with everything that is assembled with screws, nuts and bolts, constant use (and I use mine every day, whether to climb or just sit at the counter) over time causes these points to loosen - not enough to have the screws drop, but enough that tightening them again makes the chair a worthy household aide.

Sandra S: A birthday gift for my daughter who is only 5' tall and can't reach the top of her cabinets. Her pots and pans are Paula Deen red, so I thought the chair would go nicely in her kitchen.
Mary A: My mother had one of these stools when I was growing up - only she used it as the timeout chair. I use mine every day and there are days when I literally do not get off the chair other then to get another cup of coffee. The kids know when I'm sitting on this chair that I don't necessarily want to be disturbed. Not a bad way to get some quiet time!
